About David Morgan
For as long as I can remember, I have had an obsession with swimming. As a five-year-old, I told my school teacher that my ambition was to swim one length of Butterfly. There was no denying that I loved the water, so I continued to pester my mother to teach me Butterfly. Being able to learn off mum, has contributed to why I love the sport so much. My mother, Amanda James, competed for Great Britain at the 1976 Montreal Olympics when she was just 15, which has made her an incredible idol to learn and grow up with.
Born in Wales, I arrived in Australia in 2004 with very limited swimming experience. At 11 years old, I started swimming at a local club. Fast forward 19 years and I am living on the Gold Coast, swimming under Trinity Aquatic Swimming Club, with Head Coach, Anthony Heath, but I am currently designing and writing my own training program.
Swimming has taken me to some unbelievable places over the years and made me achieve some of my wildest dreams. I look back on my swimming career so far and think of two of my proudest moments.
Representing Australia at the Rio Olympics in the 4x100 medley relay was a goal in itself. To then come away with a bronze medal made the experience even more surreal! There is no better feeling than competing against the world’s best whilst wearing the green and gold.
Another highlight of my career was winning a silver medal in the 200m Butterfly at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Being able to represent my country on home soil will always continue to make me proud. I am fortunate enough to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics which now makes me a dual Olympian.
